A little history: The first group to call themselves "Raging Grannies" sprouted in the winter of 1986-87 in Victoria, BC, Canada, where several peace activists who had been doing street theatre began dressing up in outrageous hats and singing songs to protest nuclear submarines, uranium mining, nuclear power, militarism, racism, corporate greed, etc. Raging Grannies groups quickly sprang up all across Canada, all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia and down the Pacific Coast, finally entering the USA by way of Seattle. There are now more than 85 gaggles of Raging Grannies throughout Canada, Europe and the United States. South Florida's gaggle of Raging Grannies first raged in January 2006. Delray Beach city commissioners were serenaded in protest against over-development and rapid growth without plans for future outcome. Since then, the SoFlo Grans have raised our voices for the following causes (among others): Membership in the SoFlo Raging Grannies is open to any woman 45 years of age and older upon a one-time contribution of $20. (If you can't afford it you can barter, donating time, effort and expertise in place of membership dues |
